Gaming, Restaurant, Bar, BarZaar, Unley Road, Unley SA
Located on what is quickly becoming one of Adelaide's cosmopolitan stretches, this new venue not only caters for gaming but has superb restaurant and bar facilities. With a North African flavour in mind the venue has been designed to blend contemporary design with ‘Moroccan' themes and undertones creating a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere.
With the ‘Moroccan' theme in mind it was crucial to somehow capture the internal atmosphere and project this out to the Unley Road streetscape. What resulted were the bold architectural gestures now seen in the form of large steel canopies over the entrances of the venue. At the bare abstract level the overall form of these structures was drawn from that of palm trees and in particular the slender repetition and curvature of the fronds. While the canopies themselves are physically quite large and cumbersome when placed in context the juxtaposition between the rectilinear massing of the main building creates a strong contrast giving the canopies a deceptive lightness. |

Cellar Door, Rusticana Wines, Langhorne Creek, SA |
|
| This boutique winery is actually better known for its horseradish production but with the new found success of their wine label, Rusticana Wines has built this new facility to present their label formally to the public. With a contemporary rural aesthetic in mind the design cleverly incorporates a standard shed structure with minor modifications to maintain low costs and a material palate of steel and hardwood timbers. The boardwalk ramp leading up to the main deck which looks out over the flood plain towards the Bremer river showcases the beautiful setting. Tasting wine has never looked so good. |
